The story behind Toward the Canopy

The trunk begins close, broad and deeply textured, then narrows into a spreading network of branches overhead. Green needles and small openings of sky fill the space above. Looking upward changes the proportions of the forest: bark becomes a path for the eye, and the canopy becomes its destination. The photograph follows that simple movement from the ground toward light.
