After spending nearly two hours exploring the beach, watching starfish and waving to locals passing by, it was time to leave. As I climbed the hillside overlooking the water, I turned for one last look at the beautiful Alaskan coastline. That's when I noticed something unexpected—a weathered fishing net tangled in the branches of a tree, nearly thirty feet above the water. How it got there, I may never know, but it was a fitting reminder of the powerful tides and the fishing heritage of Southeast Alaska.
